Esther Williams (August 8, 1922 - ) is a United States competitive swimmer and 1940s and 1950s movie star. Known as "America's Mermaid," she was famous for her musical films that featured elaborate performances with swimming, diving and "water ballet," which is now known as synchronized swimming.

Esther and Grace Kelly
After refusing to play the lead role in the 1956 film The Opposite Sex, a musical remake of 1939's The Women. Williams redecorated her dressing room to accommodate returning star Grace Kelly.
