Esther Williams (August 8, 1922 - ) is a United States competitive swimmer and 1940s and 1950s movie star. Known as "America's Mermaid," she was famous for her musical films that featured elaborate performances with swimming, diving and "water ballet," which is now known as synchronized swimming.

Esther Williams, set multiple national and regional swimming records before she turned 20. Unable to compete in the 1940 Summer Olympics because of World War II, Williams joined Billy Rose's Aquacade. Through the 1940s and early 1950s, Williams made a series of films known as 'aquamusicals,' which featured beautiful synchronized swimming and diving. Williams left MGM in 1956 and appeared in television specials, including one from Cypress Gardens, Florida.
